Bloom where you are planted.
I’m Jan, the creator of The Neighborhood Sprouts.
I’m a local Edgewood mom who was in search of an organization to enroll my three kids in where they gave back and bettered their community. It seemed so simple to me, but my search ended up being constant dead ends. I spent hours looking for clubs and organization that did nothing but promote generosity within kids until my frustration turned into motivation. I had created this awesome idea in my head for these kids and when I couldn’t find it, decided to just go ahead and create it myself.
The Neighborhood Sprouts has been curating in my head for years, it just took awhile for me to pan it out. I love community service and activism. I love volunteering. I love fundraising. I love giving back. But most of all, I LOVE kids and helping them grow. Combining my past experience with nonprofit work and community events, and my love of working with kids, it seemed 100% fitting for me to step up to the plate and devote myself to this incredible journey of creating the Sprouts.
I wear a lot of hats. I’m a wife, an operations analyst, a community activist, PTA member, animal lover, daughter, sister, friend and queso connoisseur. But my favorite hat is my mom hat. I wear it loud and proud. My #1 mom goal is to make sure I am raising kids who understand the absolute importance of community involvement and giving to others. I want my kids (and all kids) to love being generous and crave the feeling of making others feel good as well as themselves.
I want this world to change and grow and be filled with love. And they best way to do that is to teach future generations how wonderful change and growth and loving others can be.
So that is my mission.
That is my goal.
To make our communities better, one Sprout at a time.
